What should you know about dupilumab and eosinophilic asthma?

Eosinophilic asthma is an asthma pattern associated with increased eosinophils, a type of immune cell, and airway inflammation. A clinician may use symptoms, flare history, lung-function assessment, and blood or other findings to decide whether this pattern is present. Dupilumab is a biologic treatment that can be considered alongside established asthma medicines for selected patients. It is not a general reliever and does not open the airways immediately during an acute attack.

Continue your controller inhaler and keep your reliever available exactly as your asthma team advises. Learn the injection schedule, storage requirements, and missed-dose plan before the first dose. Record night waking, wheeze, activity limits, reliever use, and flare symptoms so reviews can measure meaningful change. Do not reduce steroid or inhaler treatment on your own. Follow your written asthma action plan during worsening symptoms. Seek emergency help if you cannot speak comfortably, your breathing is rapidly worsening, your lips look blue or grey, you become confused, or your reliever is not helping as instructed. Contact the treatment team for persistent injection reactions, eye symptoms, new facial redness, or a suspected allergic reaction. A sudden breathing emergency needs acute asthma care, not a delayed biologic dose.
