Dry skin under the eyes causing wrinkles

The thin skin around the eyes loses water easily. Dryness may cause tightness, flaking, rough texture and temporary emphasis of lines, especially after cleansing or exposure to dry air. Rubbing, fragranced products, makeup and eye drops can add irritation. Asteatotic Eczema, Atopic Dermatitis or Psoriasis can also affect nearby skin; the appearance alone cannot identify the cause.

Use lukewarm water and a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser, keeping it away from the eye itself. Apply a bland moisturizer or an emollient soon after washing, using a small amount and avoiding the lash line. Do not scrub flakes or pull at the skin. Pause new eye creams and cosmetics until the area settles, and use sun protection around—but not in—the eyes. A clinician can suggest an appropriate treatment if inflammation continues.

Arrange medical advice for ongoing redness, swelling, marked itching, cracking, discharge, pain, vision changes or a rash on one side that does not settle. Seek prompt care for sudden eye swelling, severe pain or any change in vision. These warning signs need assessment rather than cosmetic treatment.
