Dry Skin on the Palm of One Hand

The affected hand may contact detergents, solvents, water, tools, or textured surfaces more often. Small blisters, intense itch, and peeling can occur with hand eczema. Thick scale can occur with Psoriasis. Scaling on one hand, especially with changes between the toes, can also be related to a fungal infection, which needs different treatment. Atopic Dermatitis and Asteatotic Eczema are other possibilities; the distribution matters.

Rinse off irritants promptly, use a gentle fragrance-free cleanser, and dry carefully between the fingers. Wear protective gloves for wet or chemical tasks, with a breathable layer underneath when practical. Reapply a thick fragrance-free cream or ointment after washing and at bedtime. Do not share towels, and avoid steroid or antifungal products without advice when the diagnosis is uncertain. Emollient Therapy may help restore the barrier.

Book a medical review if one-sided scaling persists, spreads, cracks deeply, becomes painful, or fails to improve after avoiding irritants. Seek prompt care for pus, marked warmth, rapidly worsening redness, fever, or difficulty moving the fingers. A clinician may examine the skin and nails or test a scale sample when infection is possible.

Ask whether the pattern suggests contact dermatitis, Psoriasis, eczema, or fungal infection; which gloves and moisturiser fit your work; and whether testing is needed before treatment.
