Dry Skin on Nose: What It May Mean and What to Do

Flaking, tightness, roughness, or small cracks can develop after frequent wiping, harsh cleansers, dry air, or sun exposure. Redness and itch can point toward eczema; thick, sharply outlined scale elsewhere may fit psoriasis. Asteatotic eczema is another possibility when the skin is markedly dry and fissured. The symptom alone does not identify one diagnosis.

Wash with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free gentle cleanser, then pat rather than rub. Apply a bland, fragrance-free moisturiser while the skin is still slightly damp, especially after washing. An ointment or cream may protect better than a light lotion around the nostrils. Pause exfoliating acids, scrubs, fragranced products, and picking at flakes. Emollient Therapy can support barrier repair.

Arrange a dermatology assessment if the area keeps returning, spreads, becomes painful, bleeds, forms crusts, or does not improve with gentle care. Seek prompt medical help for rapidly increasing swelling, warmth, pus, fever, or eye symptoms. A clinician can distinguish irritation from Atopic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, infection, or another cause.

Ask whether the pattern fits contact irritation, eczema, or psoriasis; which moisturiser is suitable near the nostrils; and whether any product, medicine, or habit may be prolonging the dryness.
