What should you know about dry scaly skin around eyes?

The eyelid area has a thin protective barrier and can react to eye makeup, cleansers, nail products transferred by touch, contact lenses, or airborne irritants. Seborrheic Dermatitis may cause fine scale near the brows, lashes, nose, or ears. Psoriasis can create more defined plaques, while Ringworm may produce a spreading scaly border. Tinea Versicolor usually affects the trunk but can be considered when similar colour-and-scale changes occur elsewhere. Scaly Skin is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

Burning, swelling, watery eyes, or a clear link to a new product helps a clinician decide whether the problem is irritant, allergic, inflammatory, or infectious.

Stop new eye-area products and avoid rubbing or peeling the scale. Rinse gently with clean lukewarm water, pat dry, and use a bland moisturiser on the surrounding skin, keeping it out of the eye. Do not place steroid, antifungal, essential-oil, or acne products on the eyelids without professional guidance. Wash hands before touching the area and keep makeup tools clean.
