Dry eyelid causes: what should you know?

The eyelid skin is thin and can react to cleansers, makeup, sunscreen, eye drops, hair products, or airborne irritants. Contact dermatitis may cause burning, itching, redness, and scaling where a product touches. Eczema can affect the eyelids even when other skin looks normal. Inflammation at the eyelid margins may cause flakes around the lashes, gritty discomfort, or irritation of the eye surface. Itchy Eyes or Red Eye alongside dry lids may point to a wider eye problem that needs separate assessment.

Stop suspected new products and avoid eye makeup until the skin settles. Clean gently with lukewarm water, do not peel scales, and apply a plain moisturiser around—but not inside—the eye. Wash hands before touching the area and avoid rubbing. Do not use leftover prescription creams, steroid products, or medicated drops without professional guidance because some treatments are unsuitable close to the eye. Get urgent help for severe eye pain, vision changes, strong light sensitivity, sudden swelling, or a chemical splash.
