Dry cough, itchy throat and runny nose

Allergic rhinitis commonly causes sneezing, an itchy nose or eyes, and clear drainage that can drip into the throat. A common cold may bring congestion, tiredness, or a changing nasal discharge. Smoke, air-conditioning, dust, and fragrances can irritate the airway without an infection. House dust mite allergy may be more noticeable indoors or after waking. Keep rooms free from smoke and strong scents, and consider a clean humidifier if the air is dry. Wash hands and avoid sharing cups while an infection is possible. Note where symptoms start, whether they follow dust or outdoor exposure, and whether fever or body aches develop. Get urgent help for difficulty breathing, blue lips, sudden throat swelling, fainting, confusion, or inability to swallow.
