What should you know about dress stevens johnson syndrome?

Symptoms can begin with fever, feeling unwell, sore throat, burning eyes, or skin pain before a spreading red or dusky rash appears. Blisters, peeling, and raw areas may affect the mouth, eyes, genitals, or other mucosal surfaces. This condition can resemble a Drug Rash, but the severity, skin pain, blistering, and mucosal involvement require urgent evaluation.

The reaction can affect fluid balance, temperature control, breathing, vision, and the function of internal organs. It is not something to monitor at home while waiting for a routine appointment.

If Stevens-Johnson syndrome is suspected, go to an emergency department or call local emergency services. Take the medicine packets or a written list of everything started or stopped recently, including over-the-counter products and supplements. Do not take another dose of a suspected new medicine unless an emergency clinician instructs you to do so.

Hospital care may include stopping the suspected trigger, careful fluid and wound management, pain control, eye assessment, and monitoring of breathing and organ function. Oral Corticosteroid Treatment may be considered by specialists in selected situations, but treatment must be supervised.

Seek emergency help immediately for a painful spreading rash, blisters or peeling, mouth sores that limit drinking, red or painful eyes, genital sores, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, faintness, or fever with a new rash. Do not drive yourself if you feel weak, confused, or short of breath.
