Does vaginal oestrogen therapy help with vaginal dryness?

When oestrogen levels fall, vaginal tissue may become thinner, drier, and more sensitive to friction. Local oestrogen acts in the vaginal area and may restore some of the tissue conditions that support comfort. People may notice less burning, itching, or discomfort with movement and sex as treatment takes effect.

Dryness can have other causes, including medicines, breastfeeding, irritation from perfumed products, infection, or inflammatory skin conditions. A moisturiser can support day-to-day comfort, while lubricant reduces friction during sex; neither replaces an assessment when symptoms persist.
