Does targeted therapy treat follicular lymphoma?

Follicular lymphoma is a type of lymphoma arising from immune cells. A targeted medicine acts on a specific feature of lymphoma cells or their surrounding signals rather than affecting every dividing cell in the same way. It may be considered when treatment is needed, when the lymphoma has returned, or when a particular target makes the medicine relevant. Some targeted medicines are combined with another systemic treatment. The choice depends on symptoms, affected areas, biopsy findings, blood results, scan findings and what treatment you have already received. Some people may be monitored before treatment is needed.

Ask your specialist whether your pathology report describes features that support a targeted option. Review the intended benefit, how treatment is given, monitoring visits and possible effects on infection risk, blood counts or organs. Provide a complete list of medicines and supplements, and mention recent infections or vaccinations. Do not stop prescribed treatment without advice. During treatment, report fever, chills, worsening cough, unusual bleeding, severe diarrhoea, a new rash, or sudden swelling to your care team. Get urgent help for difficulty breathing, chest pain, collapse, confusion, or swelling around the mouth or throat. Contact the team as well if rapidly enlarging nodes, drenching night sweats or unexplained weight loss appear, because the treatment plan may need reassessment.
