Does syringoma cause skin bumps?

Syringomas are benign growths linked to cells around sweat ducts. They often develop on the lower eyelids or upper cheeks and may occur in groups on both sides of the face. The bumps are usually smooth and may stay similar for a long time, although some people develop more over time. Many other conditions can cause skin bumps, so appearance alone cannot confirm syringoma.

Do not squeeze, scratch, or try to cut the bumps, especially near the eye. A dermatologist can examine them and discuss whether observation is reasonable or whether cosmetic treatment is suitable. Options may include procedures that remove or reduce individual bumps, but treatment can cause temporary redness, pigment changes, or scarring and may not prevent new bumps.

Arrange a medical assessment if a bump is new and changing, bleeds, forms an ulcer, becomes painful, grows quickly, or differs from the others. Seek prompt care for marked eyelid swelling, eye pain, or vision changes. A clinician may recommend examination or testing when the diagnosis is uncertain.
