Can stomach cancer cause vomiting blood?

Blood may appear bright red, dark, or like coffee grounds. Stomach cancer can cause bleeding from abnormal tissue or an irritated stomach lining. Ulcers, inflammation, tears after forceful vomiting, liver-related bleeding, and some medicines can also cause this symptom. Its appearance does not identify the cause.

Blood loss may occur even when the amount looks small. Dizziness, faintness, rapid breathing, pale or clammy skin, confusion, black stools, or worsening weakness can signal significant bleeding or shock.

If you are vomiting blood, seek emergency medical care now. Do not drive yourself if you feel faint or weak. Keep the vomit or a clear description of its colour available for clinicians, and take your medicine list with you. Do not eat or drink until emergency staff advise you, particularly if further procedures may be needed.

Tell the medical team about abdominal pain, black stools, repeated vomiting, alcohol use, liver disease, ulcers, and medicines such as blood thinners or anti-inflammatory pain relievers.

Call emergency services immediately for fainting, confusion, severe weakness, trouble breathing, cold clammy skin, repeated vomiting of blood, or black tar-like stools. A person who is unconscious should not be given food or drink.

Ask what source of bleeding was found, which medicines to pause or continue, what follow-up testing is planned, and which symptoms should bring you back immediately.
