Does PUVA therapy treat mycosis fungoides?

PUVA combines a light-sensitising medicine with a carefully measured dose of ultraviolet A light. The medicine helps affected skin respond to the light. For mycosis fungoides, it may be considered when abnormal cells are mainly in the skin and the lesions can be reached by light. It is not a single universal treatment, and it may not address disease outside the skin. Sessions are planned repeatedly, with the dose adjusted according to your response and any skin reaction. Redness, burning, tanning, itching, or eye sensitivity may occur.

Treatment should be coordinated with the team managing your mycosis fungoides. Ask how the diagnosis and stage were established, which areas will be exposed, and how response will be checked. Tell the team about liver problems, eye conditions, medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and light sensitivity. Take the prescribed sensitising medicine exactly as directed, protect eyes and untreated skin as instructed, and keep every scheduled review.

Tell the treatment team about severe burning, blistering, marked swelling, or a persistent painful reaction after a session. Seek prompt review for new lumps, ulcers, rapidly changing patches, unexplained fever, or worsening symptoms. Eye pain or changes in vision after the sensitising medicine require urgent medical advice.
