Does PRP injection treat plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis involves irritation and overload of the thick band supporting the sole, often causing heel pain with the first steps after rest. PRP uses a sample of your blood that is processed and injected near the painful tissue. The aim is to support the body's healing response; it does not remove a heel spur or instantly correct the forces stressing the foot.

A clinician may first check whether the pain is truly coming from plantar fasciitis and review footwear, activity, calf tightness and other possible causes. Results can vary, and improvement may take time.

Discuss the diagnosis and alternatives with an orthopedics or physiotherapy clinician. A plan may include activity adjustment, supportive footwear, calf and foot exercises, and a gradual return to loading. Tell the clinician about medicines, bleeding problems, infection, allergies and other health conditions before an injection. Follow the aftercare instructions and avoid rapidly increasing walking or running while the area settles.

Arrange assessment if heel pain persists, limits walking, or keeps returning despite sensible self-care. Seek prompt medical help for marked redness, spreading warmth, drainage, fever, sudden inability to bear weight, new numbness or severe pain after an injection.
