Does ovarian cancer debulking surgery treat primary peritoneal cancer?

Primary peritoneal cancer begins in the lining of the abdomen and can coat several surfaces. Debulking surgery is designed to remove visible deposits from the peritoneum and any involved organs that can be treated safely. The operation may therefore be broader than a procedure focused on one organ. Tissue removed during surgery is examined to confirm the diagnosis and guide the next part of care.

Ask the oncology team how scans and your physical condition affect operability. Discuss whether drug treatment is recommended before or after surgery, possible bowel involvement, expected nutrition needs, and the support available during recovery. Tell the team about breathing problems, blood-thinning medicines, and previous abdominal procedures.

Contact your care team for increasing abdominal swelling, repeated vomiting, inability to pass stool or gas, or pain that is getting worse. After surgery, get urgent help for breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, fever, or a wound that opens or becomes increasingly inflamed.
