Does operative hysteroscopy treat uterine septum?

A uterine septum is a band of tissue that partly or fully separates the womb cavity. During operative hysteroscopy, a camera passes through the vagina and cervix. A clinician can use instruments through the hysteroscope to cut the septum and create a single cavity.

Imaging is used to confirm the shape of the womb and distinguish a septum from other uterine forms. The depth and thickness of the tissue, symptoms, pregnancy history, and future pregnancy plans all affect the recommendation. Correcting the septum addresses the cavity shape; it does not treat unrelated fertility or pregnancy factors.
