Does microneedling treat stretch marks?

Stretch marks form when the skin stretches and supporting fibres change. Newer marks may look red, purple, or darker, while older marks often become pale and indented. Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that can stimulate repair and collagen remodelling, which may reduce contrast and make the surface feel smoother over time.

Response depends on the mark's age, width, depth, body area, and your skin's tendency to develop pigment changes or raised scars. The procedure does not restore the skin to its earlier state. Pregnancy, weight change, muscle growth, and some medicines or medical conditions can influence new marks.

A clinician should examine the area and ask about pregnancy, breastfeeding, active rash, infection, eczema, keloids, and medicines. Do not treat skin that is inflamed, sunburned, or broken. Ask how the chosen technique fits the colour and age of your marks.

Follow the aftercare plan, keep the area clean and moisturised as directed, avoid scratching and friction, and protect exposed skin from sunlight. Redness, tenderness, dryness, and pinpoint bleeding can occur. Allow the skin to settle before judging changes or scheduling another session.

Seek advice if marks appear suddenly alongside other unexplained body changes, or if they are painful, very itchy, bruised-looking, or associated with a new medicine or illness. After treatment, report increasing pain, warmth, pus, fever, spreading redness, blistering, or a raised scar that continues to thicken.

Ask whether your marks are suitable for microneedling, what visible change is realistic, how recovery will be managed on that body area, and whether colour or texture is the main target. Discuss alternatives, sun protection, and the warning signs that need review.
