Does iontophoresis treat sweaty palms?

For palmar hyperhidrosis, both hands rest in shallow trays of water while a mild current passes through the water. The treatment temporarily lowers sweat output from the palms. It does not remove sweat glands, and it cannot prevent sweating from areas outside the trays.

Treatment often starts with repeated sessions, followed by occasional maintenance when moisture returns. Tingling or warmth is expected for some people, while dryness, irritation, or tiny cracks may need a break and skin care. Pads or barriers may protect small cuts, but the device instructions should guide their use.

Tell a clinician how sweaty palms affect gripping, writing, devices, or social contact, and whether sweating also occurs during sleep or elsewhere. Do not place hands with open cuts or inflamed skin into the trays. Moisturise after treatment when advised, and keep a simple record of sessions, response, and irritation.

Seek assessment if sweating begins abruptly, affects the whole body, or comes with fever, faintness, chest discomfort, breathing trouble, or unusual weakness. Stop the session and contact the provider for blistering, severe pain, burns, or skin inflammation that does not settle.
