Can an imperforate hymen cause periods to stop?

The ovaries and uterus may still follow a menstrual cycle, but blood can collect behind the hymen instead of appearing as vaginal bleeding. This is different from a cycle that has not started or stopped because of a hormonal, pregnancy-related, or other health cause.
