Short answer

Arch pain is a common presentation of high-arched feet, because a raised arch can concentrate pressure during standing and walking.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Common pattern
High-arched feet can increase pressure through the arch during weight-bearing.
Useful detail
Pain timing, footwear, and activity often help guide the assessment.

What the connection means

A high arch may leave less of the sole in contact with the ground. Pressure can then shift toward the heel and the ball of the foot, while the tissues supporting the arch work harder to steady the foot. Tight calf muscles, a stiff foot, or shoes with limited support can add to the strain. Pain may appear after prolonged standing, walking, running, or other weight-bearing activity. Arch pain can have several causes, so the symptom alone does not identify high-arched feet.

What you can do

Reduce activities that clearly worsen the pain for a short period, and choose well-fitting shoes with cushioning and room for the toes. Gentle calf and foot stretches may help if they do not increase symptoms. A clinician or physiotherapist can assess your foot shape, walking pattern, flexibility, and footwear; they may discuss an insole or other support suited to your needs rather than a generic insert.

When to seek care

Arrange an assessment if pain persists, keeps returning, limits walking, or comes with numbness, tingling, weakness, swelling, or a visible change in the foot. Seek urgent care after a significant injury, or if you cannot bear weight, the foot becomes cold or pale, or severe pain develops suddenly.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether your arch height or calf flexibility is contributing to the pain, which activities to modify, and whether you need a foot examination, physiotherapy, or an orthotic assessment. Take note of when the pain begins and which shoes or activities affect it.

Questions people ask

Can shoes make arch pain worse with high-arched feet?

Yes. Shoes with poor cushioning, a narrow fit, or limited support can increase pressure and irritation during walking.

Should I use an arch support?

An insert may help some people, but the right support depends on your foot shape and symptoms; a clinician can guide the choice.
