What may be contributing

Submental fullness can reflect fat beneath the chin, loose skin, muscle or skeletal structure, or a combination of these features. Focused ultrasound acts in selected tissue layers and may encourage tightening, which can make the contour look more defined when laxity is present.

If fullness is mainly caused by fat, tightening alone may produce limited change. An in-person assessment helps separate skin laxity from volume and clarifies whether one treatment can reasonably address the concern.

Ask the practitioner to assess the area from several angles and while your neck is relaxed. Discuss whether the goal is tightening, reducing volume, or improving the transition from chin to neck. Tell them about prior injections, surgery, dental procedures, implants, and any tenderness or numbness.

Review the expected treatment area, sensations during treatment, aftercare, and timing for review. Do not judge the contour while temporary swelling or tenderness is present.
