Does heat rash cause skin bumps?

Heat rash can produce small raised red or skin-coloured bumps, tiny fluid-filled spots, prickling, or itch. It often appears where sweat collects or clothing rubs, such as the neck, chest, back, waist, groin, or skin folds. Babies may develop it beneath clothing or in covered folds.

Skin bumps have many possible causes, including insect bites, folliculitis, eczema, allergy, and infection. Heat, sweating, and a pattern in covered or rubbing areas support heat rash, but appearance alone cannot confirm it.

Move to a cooler place, loosen clothing, and keep the affected area dry and aired. Use a cool damp cloth, then pat rather than rub. Choose loose, breathable clothing and pause activities that cause heavy sweating. Avoid thick ointments, fragranced products, and vigorous scratching because they can trap heat or further irritate the skin.

Arrange medical advice if the bumps spread, persist despite cooling, recur frequently, or are difficult to distinguish from an infection. Seek prompt care for increasing pain, warmth, pus, fever, marked swelling, or red streaks. Emergency help is needed for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, faintness, or a rapidly spreading reaction.
