MERS coronavirus infection can cause fever, cough and breathing difficulty, and may become more severe in people with other health problems. A GP can ask about symptoms, recent travel, contact with camels or a confirmed case, existing conditions and medicines. They can advise where assessment should happen and coordinate referral or testing. Because infection-control precautions may be needed, phone the clinic or health service before attending and describe the concern.
