Antiviral medicines are prescribed and monitored by an appropriate clinician; a GP may continue to support your general health and coordinate care.

Book a GP consultation if you have had a possible exposure, an abnormal liver test or symptoms such as persistent tiredness, nausea or yellowing of the skin. Bring a list of medicines and supplements and mention any previous hepatitis testing. Avoid sharing razors or toothbrushes, and do not donate blood while infection is being assessed. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice.

Arrange prompt medical advice for new jaundice, dark urine, severe abdominal swelling, vomiting blood, black stools, confusion or marked drowsiness. Seek emergency help for collapse, severe breathing difficulty or heavy bleeding. These warning signs need urgent assessment and should not wait for a routine appointment.
