Does folliculitis cause skin bumps?

Folliculitis is inflammation of a hair follicle. The bumps may be red, tender, itchy, or topped with a small amount of fluid. They can appear after shaving, waxing, sweating, friction, or contact with products that irritate the skin. Some cases involve bacteria, while others are driven by yeast, blocked follicles, or repeated rubbing. Bumps may cluster on areas such as the beard, scalp, chest, back, buttocks, or thighs. Arrange medical care if the area is rapidly worsening, increasingly painful, hot, swollen, or draining extensively. Seek prompt help for fever, feeling unwell, spreading redness, or a painful lump that is becoming deep. An appointment is also sensible when bumps keep returning, leave marks, involve the scalp or beard persistently, or do not improve with gentle care. Early assessment can distinguish folliculitis from acne, an abscess, or another skin condition.
