Does excimer laser therapy treat scalp psoriasis?

Scalp psoriasis can cause thickened patches, scale, itch and soreness around or beyond the hairline. Excimer treatment delivers focused ultraviolet light to affected skin, which can be useful when plaques are limited and the device can reach them. Dense hair, widespread disease or difficult-to-reach areas may make another approach more practical. The treatment does not remove the underlying tendency to develop psoriasis, and plaques can return after they improve.

A dermatologist will examine the scalp, hairline and other skin areas before choosing treatment. Tell them about previous light reactions, medicines, scalp products and any joint stiffness or swelling. Follow instructions about washing, parting the hair and protecting the eyes and nearby skin.
