Does endometriosis cause pain during sex?

Endometriosis can cause inflammation, tenderness, or scar-like changes around pelvic organs. Penetration may then cause pain deep in the pelvis, particularly with certain positions or deeper movement. Some people also notice pain that continues after sex rather than only during penetration.

Pain at the entrance of the vagina can have different contributors, including dryness, irritation, infection, pelvic floor muscle tightening, or skin conditions. Endometriosis is therefore one possibility among several. The location, timing, and associated symptoms help guide assessment.
