Can dermal fillers treat acne scars?

Fillers are placed beneath a scar to raise or support an indentation, making the surface look more even. They are most relevant to atrophic, rolling, or some boxcar scars rather than raised or thick scars. Active acne, inflammation, infection, or a changing skin problem may need attention before an injection is considered.

The result depends on scar depth, firmness, location, skin condition, and the material selected. Improvement may be subtle or partial, and filler can fade as the body gradually breaks it down. It also does not correct discoloration or the cause of new breakouts.
