Does custom orthotics treat high-arched feet?

Short answer
Custom orthotics may cushion high-arched feet and spread pressure more evenly, but they do not permanently lower the arch or remove its cause.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How high arches affect loading
A high arch can leave more pressure under the heel and ball of the foot and may reduce the foot’s ability to adapt to uneven ground. Some people develop calluses, ankle instability, aching or fatigue during walking and sport. An orthotic is shaped to support the arch while filling pressure gaps and cushioning contact points. The goal is a more comfortable, stable load pattern; the shape of the arch may remain unchanged.
The best design depends on flexibility, muscle strength, footwear, activity and any nerve or joint findings. A device that feels too high or creates a new pressure area may need modification. A careful examination is useful when one foot changes, balance worsens or symptoms are new.
Making support work
Use shoes with adequate cushioning, a stable base and enough room for the insert. A clinician may pair orthotic support with calf mobility, foot and ankle strengthening, balance work or activity adjustments. Introduce the device for short periods at first, then increase use if the skin and symptoms remain comfortable. Check calluses and pressure marks after wearing it, and report pain that moves to the knee, hip or back after the fitting.
When to seek care
Seek prompt care for sudden weakness, new numbness, a rapidly changing foot shape, inability to bear weight, or a hot, red and swollen foot. Book an assessment for repeated ankle sprains, worsening balance, painful calluses or pain that limits activity. Reduced sensation makes regular skin checks and early review especially important.
Questions for your doctor
What is causing my high arch, and does it affect both feet? Where should support and cushioning be placed? Which shoes will fit the device? Should I add balance or strengthening exercises, and what symptoms require a fitting change?

Questions people ask
Can custom orthotics flatten high arches?
They can improve cushioning and load distribution, but they do not permanently flatten a high arch.
Why do high arches need cushioning?
A high arch may concentrate force at the heel and forefoot, so cushioning can reduce pressure in those areas.
