Does cryotherapy help with skin bumps?

Cryotherapy uses intense cold, commonly delivered with liquid nitrogen, to destroy selected tissue at the surface. It may be considered for certain benign growths, rough lesions, or other clearly identified targets. A bump can also be an inflamed follicle, cyst, infection, mole, or a lesion that needs a different treatment, so freezing it without a diagnosis can delay appropriate care. The bump may blister, crust, or change colour while it heals, and the treated area can remain lighter or darker than nearby skin.

Arrange a dermatology assessment if the bump is new, changing, repeatedly irritated, or difficult to identify. Do not pick, puncture, or apply household freezing products. Tell the clinician about medicines that affect healing, previous abnormal skin lesions, poor circulation, reduced sensation, or a tendency to form thick scars. After treatment, follow the wound-care instructions, keep the area clean, and protect healing skin from sun exposure.

Seek prompt medical review for a bump that bleeds without a clear injury, develops an ulcer or persistent crust, grows quickly, becomes very painful, or shows marked colour or border change. After cryotherapy, contact the treating service if redness spreads, swelling worsens, pus appears, fever develops, or pain is not settling. These features need examination rather than another freezing session.

Ask what the bump is thought to be, why cryotherapy fits that diagnosis, whether a sample is needed, what skin changes are expected during healing, and what alternatives exist if the bump returns.
