Does cortisone injection treat Morton's neuroma?

Morton’s neuroma involves irritation around a nerve in the forefoot, often causing burning pain, tingling, or a feeling of a pebble inside the shoe. Cortisone can calm local inflammation and may make walking more comfortable. Symptoms can return because pressure between the toes, footwear, and the nerve thickening remain. A foot assessment helps distinguish this problem from stress injury, joint pain, or another nerve condition.

Discuss wider shoes, a low heel, and a metatarsal pad positioned to reduce pressure on the painful area. A clinician may recommend foot and calf exercises, activity adjustment, or an injection after examining the location of your symptoms. Mention diabetes, skin infection, allergies, blood-thinning medicine, or previous reactions before treatment. Return to activity gradually and note whether numbness or burning is changing.

Seek prompt care if the foot becomes red, hot, rapidly swollen, or you develop fever or an open wound. Arrange assessment for progressive numbness, weakness, loss of balance, or pain that prevents normal walking. New pain after an injury also deserves examination because it may not be caused by Morton’s neuroma.
