Does CO2 laser resurfacing treat xanthelasma?

Xanthelasma consists of yellowish cholesterol-containing plaques, usually on or around the eyelids. CO2 laser can ablate a controlled amount of tissue and may improve the visible surface. Whether it is appropriate depends on plaque thickness, eyelid position, skin tone, and the clinician’s ability to protect nearby structures.

Treatment may leave temporary redness, swelling, crusting, or a change in skin colour. Scarring, eyelid contour change, infection, and recurrence are possible. Because xanthelasma can be associated with abnormal blood lipids or other health factors, cosmetic treatment does not replace a medical assessment.
