Does chest X-ray treat tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis can affect the lungs and other parts of the body. A chest X-ray may show changes that prompt further investigation or help clinicians assess lung involvement, but it cannot identify every case by itself and cannot remove the bacteria. Diagnosis may require a medical history, examination, sputum testing, or other investigations chosen by a clinician.

If tuberculosis is suspected, attend the recommended testing and follow public-health advice about close contacts, ventilation, and staying away from others when instructed. Confirmed tuberculosis is treated with a prescribed combination of medicines taken over the planned course. Keep appointments, report side effects promptly, and do not stop treatment because symptoms improve.

Seek urgent care for severe breathlessness, coughing up a large amount of blood, confusion, fainting, or severe chest pain. Arrange prompt assessment for a cough that persists with fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or increasing tiredness, especially after close contact with tuberculosis.

Ask what the image suggests, which confirmatory tests are needed, whether household contacts should be assessed, how to take each medicine safely, and which symptoms should be reported immediately.
