Does breast ultrasound treat breast abscess?

A breast abscess is a collection of infected fluid. Ultrasound can show whether a painful lump contains fluid, how deep it is, and whether nearby tissue is involved. It cannot remove fluid or clear infection. A clinician may use the scan to guide needle drainage or choose another drainage method. Fluid may be tested, and prescribed medicine may also be part of care.
