Does Botox help with wrinkles?

Botulinum toxin reduces signals from nerves to selected muscles for a limited period. Less muscle contraction can make expression lines look softer, particularly in areas that crease during frowning, brow raising, or squinting.

Wrinkles that remain visible when the face is relaxed can also reflect sun exposure, skin dryness, changes in collagen, or reduced volume. Botox does not replace skin care or automatically correct those changes, so the treatment plan should match the pattern seen during an examination.

During consultation, describe when the wrinkles appear and whether they bother you at rest, with expression, or in photographs. Provide a full list of medicines and supplements, and mention allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, neuromuscular disorders, and previous injectables.

Discuss the intended areas, the degree of movement you want to keep, expected timing of change, and alternatives for texture or resting lines. Follow the practitioner’s aftercare advice and avoid scheduling treatment over an active skin infection.

Contact a clinician promptly after treatment for worsening facial weakness, significant eyelid drooping, vision problems, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or widespread symptoms suggesting an allergic reaction. A painful, inflamed, or quickly changing skin lesion should be medically assessed separately.
