Does eyelid surgery treat droopy eyelids?

Dermatochalasis is excess, lax upper-eyelid skin that can create a heavy or hooded appearance and sometimes narrow the upper field of view. Upper blepharoplasty removes or reshapes a planned amount of skin and may address nearby fat when appropriate. A low brow, eyelid-lifting muscle weakness, or a nerve problem can create a similar look; those causes require a different evaluation and may need a different procedure.

Book an examination with an ophthalmologist, oculoplastic surgeon, or another appropriately trained clinician. They can compare the brow position, eyelid height, skin fold, eye movement, and visual field. Mention whether the drooping is new, uneven, worse when tired, or interfering with reading or driving. Discuss incision placement, dry-eye risk, healing, and whether treating the brow or eyelid muscle is part of the plan.

New or rapidly worsening drooping, unequal pupils, double vision, facial weakness, severe headache, or other neurological symptoms need urgent assessment rather than routine cosmetic planning. Following surgery, report vision change, severe pain, increasing redness, heavy bleeding, or swelling that is getting worse quickly.

Ask whether excess skin is the main cause, whether your brow or eyelid muscle contributes, if vision testing is useful, and how the proposed treatment could affect eyelid closure and eye comfort.
