Does benign bone tumour cause pain that wakes you at night?

A benign bone tumour may cause a deep, local ache as it affects the bone or nearby tissues. Pain can become more noticeable at rest or disturb sleep. Some tumours cause no symptoms and are found during imaging for another reason.

Night pain alone does not identify the cause. A clinician considers its exact location, duration, tenderness, swelling, activity pattern, and any history of injury. Imaging may be needed to look at the bone and decide whether specialist review is appropriate.

Record where the pain occurs, whether it wakes you at a particular time, and whether movement or rest changes it. Book a medical assessment when pain persists, recurs, or is accompanied by a lump, swelling, or reduced movement. Do not press or massage a new bony lump repeatedly.

Seek prompt care for severe or rapidly worsening pain, a new deformity, inability to use the limb, fever, or sudden weakness or numbness. An unexplained night-waking pain that continues also deserves evaluation, even without visible swelling.

Ask what examination or imaging is suitable, whether the finding appears benign, and which changes in pain or swelling should prompt earlier review.
