Does Bell's palsy cause slurred speech?

Bell's palsy affects the facial nerve on one side. Facial weakness may change the movement of the lips, cheek, or tongue-side muscles involved in speech, so words can sound less clear. Drooping at the corner of the mouth, difficulty closing one eye, altered taste, or discomfort around the ear may occur as well. Slurred speech can also come from problems affecting the brain or other nerves, so the pattern and timing matter.

Note when the change started and whether it affects only pronunciation or also your ability to understand words, find words, swallow, or move an arm or leg.
