Eczema herpeticum is a viral infection affecting skin already affected by eczema or another skin barrier problem. It can cause clusters of similar-looking blisters, open sores, pain, fever, or a rapidly spreading rash. Antiviral medicine acts against the virus; it does not replace care for the underlying eczema or any bacterial infection that may also be present.
