Does antiviral treatment help with painful skin?

Pain can occur with viral rashes, grouped blisters, or irritation of nearby nerves. Seek medical advice promptly for new unexplained skin pain, particularly if it is one-sided, follows a band-like area, or is accompanied by blisters. Keep the skin protected from rubbing, use a cool clean compress if comfortable, and avoid applying strong creams or leftover prescriptions. If an antiviral is prescribed, follow the schedule and tell the prescriber about new symptoms or medicine reactions.

Get urgent assessment for pain near the eye, rapidly spreading redness, extensive blistering, skin peeling, fever with severe illness, weakness, confusion, or difficulty drinking. Emergency help is appropriate for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, collapse, or sudden neurological symptoms. Prompt review is also wise if you have reduced immunity or the pain is escalating despite care.
