Does antibiotic treatment for pelvic infection treat gonorrhoea?

Pelvic inflammatory infection can involve several organisms. Gonorrhoea requires treatment chosen for the bacteria and local prescribing guidance, so a general pelvic infection prescription should not be assumed to cover it. Gonorrhoea can affect the cervix, urethra, throat or rectum and may cause no symptoms. A positive test can change the treatment plan and prompts attention to recent sexual partners.

Arrange sexual health testing or follow the clinician's testing plan, and take only the prescribed treatment. Avoid sexual contact until you have been told it is safe and partners have been assessed where advised. Do not use leftover antibiotics or stop early because discharge or pain improves.
