Does antibiotic treatment for pelvic infection help with vaginal odour?

Infection can change vaginal secretions and create a noticeable smell. If a pelvic infection is confirmed, the right antibiotics can reduce the bacteria and the odour may fade as inflammation settles. A smell can also come from bacterial vaginosis, a sexually transmitted infection, a retained tampon, or irritation, and these may need different care.

Perfumed soaps, deodorants, and vaginal douching can irritate delicate tissue and make symptoms harder to assess. Odour by itself does not show which treatment is appropriate.

Book a medical assessment for a new or persistent odour, especially with discharge, pelvic pain, bleeding, fever, pain during sex, or urinary burning.
