Anti-Müllerian hormone is produced by small ovarian follicles. A blood test can offer an estimate of the remaining follicle pool, which may help a clinician plan investigations or fertility treatment. The result does not show egg quality, confirm whether you can become pregnant, or identify every cause of infertility. Results can be affected by hormonal medicines and certain ovarian conditions, so they need clinical context.

Take the result to a fertility clinician rather than interpreting it alone. Assessment may also consider ovulation, menstrual history, the fallopian tubes, the uterus, and sperm factors. Depending on your circumstances, the clinician may discuss timed intercourse, medicines, insemination, or assisted reproductive treatment. Do not start supplements or stop prescribed contraception based only on an AMH result.

Arrange medical advice if pregnancy has not occurred after a period of trying, or sooner if cycles are absent or very irregular, there is a history of pelvic surgery, or you have concerns about declining fertility. Seek urgent care for severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, or fever.
