Does a trichology perform scalp micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation, sometimes called SMP or a hair tattoo, places carefully selected pigment into the scalp to create the visual impression of closely cropped hair or added density. It changes appearance; it does not restore follicles or treat the cause of hair loss.

A trichology professional may assess the scalp and help you think through hair-loss patterns, while a trained micropigmentation practitioner performs the pigment work. Ask who will map the hairline, choose pigment tones, operate the equipment and provide aftercare. Existing scalp conditions, scars and changing hair loss can affect planning.

Request a consultation and inspect healed examples that resemble your hair colour, skin tone and degree of thinning. Discuss hairline shape, density, colour matching, sessions, fading and how future hair loss could change the appearance. Confirm single-use needles or cartridges, surface disinfection and patch-testing or allergy advice where appropriate.

Tell the practitioner about scalp disease, allergies, keloid scarring and medicines that affect healing. Do not proceed over an active rash or infection. Obtain written aftercare instructions covering washing, sun exposure, exercise and signs of infection.

Contact the provider if treated skin becomes increasingly painful, hot, red, swollen or produces discharge. Seek medical advice for fever, spreading redness or a reaction that extends beyond the treated area. Sudden hair loss, scalp scaling or painful lesions should be assessed separately instead of being concealed with pigment.
