FUE, or follicular unit extraction, removes individual follicular units from a donor area and places them into areas with thinning or absent hair. A trichology team may assess the scalp, discuss hair-loss patterns, plan graft placement and coordinate aftercare. The person making medical decisions and carrying out surgery should have appropriate training in hair restoration and skin or surgical care.

The clinic’s staffing model can vary. A trichologist may focus on hair and scalp assessment, while a doctor or another licensed clinician performs the surgical stages. Ask who examines you, who designs the hairline, who extracts the grafts, who creates recipient sites and who remains available if healing is not as expected.

Before booking, request a consultation rather than relying on a package description. Discuss the reason for hair loss, donor density, scalp health, expected density and whether medical treatment may be needed before surgery. Confirm the clinician’s qualifications, the clinic’s licensing arrangements, sterile technique, emergency plan and follow-up schedule.

Bring a list of medicines and mention conditions that affect bleeding, wound healing or immune function. Do not feel pressured to decide during the first visit; a careful plan should explain alternatives, likely limits of donor hair and the stages of recovery.

Contact the clinic promptly for worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing swelling, pus, fever, heavy bleeding or a wound that is opening. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, fainting, rapidly progressing facial swelling or signs of a serious allergic reaction. New, sudden or patchy hair loss should also be assessed before arranging a transplant, because the underlying cause may need treatment.
