Does a reproductive medicine perform iui?

IUI, or intrauterine insemination, places prepared sperm inside the uterus around the time an egg is released. The reproductive medicine team may monitor a natural cycle or use medicines to support ovulation. Timing can be guided by ultrasound, hormone testing or an ovulation trigger. A laboratory prepares the sperm sample, and a clinician uses a narrow catheter for the brief insemination.

IUI is different from IVF because fertilisation is intended to occur inside the body rather than in a laboratory dish. Your clinician will consider ovulation, fallopian-tube health, sperm findings and the reason for treatment before recommending it.

Ask the clinic when to attend for monitoring, how to use any ovulation medicine, and what time the sperm sample is needed. Bring your medication list and report unusual bleeding, pelvic pain, fever or infection symptoms. Follow the sample-collection instructions closely; timing and correct identification are essential to the laboratory process.

Call after IUI if you develop fever, worsening pelvic pain, heavy bleeding or foul-smelling discharge. If ovulation medicines were used, urgent symptoms such as severe abdominal swelling, repeated vomiting, faintness or breathing difficulty require immediate medical advice. Do not take extra fertility medicine to compensate for a missed dose without instructions.

Ask how ovulation will be timed, whether stimulation is advised, what the sperm preparation involves, and how many monitoring visits are expected. Confirm the pregnancy-test timing, activity guidance and the number to call if pain or bleeding develops.
