Does a podiatry perform biomechanical assessment?

Short answer
Yes, a podiatrist can perform a biomechanical assessment to examine how your feet and legs move during standing and walking.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the assessment involves
The appointment may include questions about pain, activity and previous injuries, followed by observation of your posture, balance, joint movement and walking pattern. The podiatrist may watch you walk, ask you to stand on one leg, and check the movement of the ankle, foot and toes. Shoes and everyday activities can also be discussed. The findings help show how pressure and motion are distributed, but they do not by themselves establish every possible cause of pain.
How to prepare
Bring the shoes you use most often and describe when symptoms appear, such as during running, work or prolonged standing. Wear comfortable clothing that allows the lower leg and foot to be seen. Ask whether the assessment will lead to exercises, footwear changes, an orthotic recommendation or referral for another evaluation. Follow-up may be useful if your symptoms change after an adjustment.
When to seek prompt care
Arrange prompt medical assessment for a foot that is suddenly very painful, misshapen, cold, pale or numb, or for swelling and redness with fever. A wound that is deep, spreading or slow to heal also deserves timely attention, especially if you have diabetes or reduced sensation. A routine biomechanical appointment is not a substitute for urgent care when these warning signs are present.
Questions to ask
Which movements or loading patterns may be contributing to my symptoms? What will you assess during the visit? Could my current shoes affect the findings? What changes should I try first, and when should we review the plan?

Questions people ask
Is a biomechanical assessment the same as an X-ray?
No. It observes movement and physical function; imaging is a separate test used when clinically appropriate.
Should I bring my usual shoes?
Yes. Your everyday footwear can provide useful context about fit, wear and the activities that trigger symptoms.
