Tell the paediatrician about allergies, previous diagnoses and any family health concerns. A consultation may lead to reassurance, advice, monitoring or further assessment.

Arrange prompt medical assessment if a child has trouble breathing, unusual difficulty staying awake, a seizure, severe dehydration, a rapidly worsening illness or a serious injury. For urgent danger, contact local emergency services. A routine consultation remains appropriate for growth questions, developmental concerns or symptoms that are mild but persistent.
