Hysteroscopic polypectomy uses a slim camera passed through the vagina and cervix to view the inside of the uterus. A small instrument can then remove an endometrial polyp without an abdominal incision. The tissue is commonly sent for laboratory assessment. The procedure may be considered for unusual bleeding, a polyp found on imaging, or a polyp affecting fertility assessment. Your clinician will explain whether it is suitable and what anaesthesia is planned.

Tell the clinic about pregnancy possibility, medicines that affect bleeding, allergies and previous anaesthetic problems. Ask whether you need to fast, arrange transport or pause a medicine. Discuss the expected bleeding, activity limits, tissue results and how your symptoms will be reviewed after the procedure.

Seek prompt advice after the procedure for bleeding that becomes heavy, severe or increasing pelvic pain, fever, foul-smelling discharge or feeling faint. Urgent help is needed for collapse, severe breathlessness or chest pain. Before treatment, new severe pelvic pain or heavy bleeding also warrants timely assessment.
