Does an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist perform HPV vaccination?

The HPV vaccine helps the immune system recognise selected types of human papillomavirus. A specialist will review your age, previous doses, health history, allergies and pregnancy status before recommending a schedule. Vaccination helps prevent some HPV-related disease, but it does not treat an existing HPV infection or replace cervical screening. The clinic can tell you whether it provides the vaccine directly or refers you to a vaccination service.

Bring any vaccination records and mention previous reactions to vaccines, immune conditions, medicines and possible pregnancy. Ask how many appointments are advised for you, when later doses are due, and what mild reactions may occur. Remain at the clinic for the observation period they recommend after an injection.

Tell the vaccinator before the injection if you have had a serious allergic reaction to a previous dose or an ingredient. After vaccination, seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, widespread hives, or collapse. Report persistent or concerning symptoms to a healthcare professional.
